PENTA hosts Flag Raising Ceremony
Donation made to Westborough VFW Capital Campaign
WESTBOROUGH _ May celebrates National Military Appreciation Month and regional marketing firm, PENTA Communications, Inc. brought Memorial Day spirit to life by hosting a Flag Raising Ceremony to honor local Westborough Veterans on Thursday, May 22, at its new location at 208 Turnpike Road. The firm also hoped to encourage an awareness campaign for the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) as it embarks on a significant capital campaign.
Several active members of the Westborough Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Memorial Post 9013 raised the flag, as students from the Westborough High School Marching Band played the Star Spangled Banner in a festive and triumphant display of patriotism.
Local veterans, Town Officials, PENTA staff and members of the community attended the event.
“We were honored to host many local veterans who actively participated with nobility and enthusiasm as they raised the American Flag at our new location for the first time,” said Deborah Penta, CEO of PENTA Communications, Inc. “The Westborough Veterans of Foreign Wars are embarking on a significant endeavor to create a new home and we hope that, in some way, this event will help bring awareness to their efforts, and the need of community support.”
During the ceremony, PENTA’s Founder and CEO, Deborah Penta, presented the new Veterans Agent for the Town of Westborough, Denzil “Denny” Drewry, with a $1,000 donation to the Westborough VFW’s Building Fund Drive. Over the past year, PENTA designated 25 organizations to which it would donate to before the end of its 25th anniversary year. The Westborough VFW was the Company’s 24th donation.
According to Drewry, the current VFW building is extremely old, outdated and needs upgrades such as a new kitchen, new restrooms, and to be made handicap accessible. The VFW supports various organizations such as deployed troops, veterans outreach centers, VA programs, and other community-based programs. The expansion will enable the Westborough VFW to expand its reach to families of those who have been deployed, giving them use of the facility for meetings and outreach. The goal is to raise $400,000. If you’re wanting to raise as much money as possible for war veterans, look into different options available offering help for veterans, whether it be with medical expenses, housing bills, or financial help for disabled veterans, etc.
“Most of the area VFW’s, such as Marlborough, Southborough, Northborough, and Shrewsbury, are fading away and closing down. We want to have a place that can serve as many veterans and their families as possible,” Drewry said, adding, “And, with Deborah’s generous donation, we are that much closer to reaching our goal.”
“The VFW also supports the families of those killed in action by providing financial and emotional services,” Drewry said.
From World War I to date, 32 Westborough veterans have been killed in action in Foreign Wars.
“It’s important that members of our community reach out to help make a difference with this project,” said Penta. “This is a major campaign, and if everyone gives on whatever level they can, it will add up and help the VFW reach its campaign goals. We encourage people to think of innovative fundraising ideas to help the Veterans. It’s a great opportunity for people of all ages to consider how they can contribute to the success of this wonderful campaign.”
“Most of us have family members who have served in the armed forces at some point and our support of this campaign is a tribute to all of them,” Penta added.
At the ceremony, PENTA Communications presented Drewry with special recognition for his tireless commitment to Westborough veterans.
“There are so many wonderful people in our community who give back and make it a better place to live and work,” said Penta. “Many are silent heroes who diligently triumph for their causes every day. Denny Drewry works tirelessly for the Veterans, and has been a dedicated volunteer to the Town of Westborough for many years. We recognized Denny for his invaluable contributions that have made a difference for so many.”
